Exhaustion lapped at every inch of Lily, and she knew that she was already running on fumes. For the last forty eight hours, Lily had been operating on less than a couple hours of sleep she had grabbed here and there. Still, Lily could feel the buzz under her skin that made unwinding feel nearly impossible. Worry was at the forefront of her mind, and with the new found responsibilities resting heavy on her shoulders, she knew that she needed to step away for at least a little while. For the time being, there was nothing more she could do, not until she got a bit of rest first.
Which is why she found herself standing outside of Alice’s door. Part of her felt guilty just showing up when she knew that the other woman had a child. However, Lily had always loved Neville and Alice had always told her that she was welcome. Before she could talk herself out of it, she gave a soft but steady knock at the door. There was something altogether comforting about Alice’s presence that allowed her to feel more peace than she typically was able to experience on her own.
When the door opened, Lily gave her a tired attempt of a smile as she greeted, “Hi, love. Mind a little company?”
