It’s terrible how much rain one outfit can absorb in 5 seconds. Though Sasuke had known that his sensei must be correct, he woulnd’t have thought that the rainfall would be ‘this’ bad. The wind howled outside of the cave and with his clothes being wet, he started to feel cold.

“I know, I know. I was just so on a roll.” He secretly enjoyed it very much whenever Kakashi trained him on his own. He knew Sakura and Naruto sometimes also received training alone with their sensei, but he had the feeling that his training was the one that progressed the best. He was absolutely thrilled that Kakashi trained him in the art of the chidori. Surely ‘that’ must impress his father.

“What now, Sensei? Maybe if the wind eases up, I can go gather some firewood. It’s no problem if it’s wet.” Sasuke’s katon was known to dry and set ablaze anything immediately.

As Sasuke got dressed in his house, a wide range of emotion passed through him with the speed of a running cheetah. He felt tense, but nostalgic, just from being in this house again. Angry, but calm. Happy and sad. And most importantly, surprised that Karin was even still talking to him, and relieved that she had accepted his invitation for a date. His greatest fear had been to lose team Taka, even if he would deserve it.

As for Karin, she deserved the best and he was hardly one to offer it, and yet she gave him a chance anyways. He looked at himself in the mirror and checked his appearance for the third time this noon. He was usually never self-conscious about his looks, not because he was vain but because he had simply never cared and had other things to worry about. Now, he had time for mundane troubles. And he wasn’t prepared for them in the slightest. If he dressed up too much, would that be awkward? 

One thing was clear for sure - time to cover up his chest. As much as he enjoyed still wearing the kimono-like clothes around the house, he wanted to take Karin to his favorite tea house within Konoha, and they won’t let him enter with his nipples showing. They might not even let him enter at all, even if they were obligated to. He hoped no one would cause a scene. And so, a black shirt and black pants it was. And of course, the leaf headband, tied around his left wrist. Because he was obligated to wear it by law.

He had asked Karin to meet him close to the Hyuga compound, because the tea house was close by. People who passed by stared at him, unsurprisingly. Sasuke had become quite the ambivalent personality within the leaf after everything he had done. A sight to ogle. He ignored everyone expertedly.

New year would be the best opportunity to mingle with the others, but he wasn’t ready yet. He wondered if he’ll ever be ready. It weren’t the stares and side-eyes he was worried about, but rather, the realisation that no matter how hard he’d try, there will always be this kind of invisible barrier between him and the rest. History has made sure of that.

It would be better to just think small. Go wish Naruto and Sakura a happy new year, and that should suffice. Small steps. If these two are not rejecting him, then this is all he needs. So he found himself standing in front of the door of Naruto’s apartment. 

He doesn’t even know if Naruto’s home. He knocks. And waits. And then realises he is..afraid? It was unusual for Sasuke to feel his heart hammering in his chest outside of battles. Except that this wasn’t entirely true, considering he always felt like this when Naruto was involved. He was tense and didn’t like feeling so vulnerable, and all he did was just knock on a door.
