Elli stood outside the Mon Cherry bakery, staring at the window decal. She thought back to three years ago when she had he owned. When the family business rested upon her shoulders, but now she only shouldered guilt while ‘what ifs’ filled her head.
Was there something more she could have done? Could she have done better? Was she a failure?
It wasn’t until she heard the bakery’s door open before she snapped out of her cyclic thoughts. She was there for a reason and it wasn’t to wallow in the past. Shaking her head to clear her thoughts she headed inside.
The warm, fresh scent of pastries and sweets washed over her leaving the fuzzy feeling of nostalgia. A small smile appeared on Elli’s features as she approached the counter, looking to see who worked in the bakery that day.
She hoped it was Laney--she had a chocolate peanut butter cheesecake with her name on it after all.
