When Sakura heard about Dodgebow, she had the sad feeling that she wouldn’t get the chance to play it, despite how badly she wanted to. It just wasn’t something she would ordinarily partake in, and there weren’t many people she knew who would want to play with her. The obvious candidate, Takumi, was still back home, and hearing people talk about their Dodgebow matches just made her miss him more and more, still not used to being so far away from him and the rest of her family. But the topic of family brought another possible player to mind… and it was one who would have more fun with the game, AND who wouldn’t beat her within five minutes of it starting. Well, she hoped, anyway.
She wasn’t surprised when Kana agreed to play, and his excitement, of which there was plenty, was contagious. Being able to play around with him always made Sakura feel lighter, younger, like she hadn’t seen some of the things she had. She found herself beaming from ear to ear as she loaded up the blunted arrows and secured her quiver. She gave Kana a quick once-over to make sure they were both suited up, and then gestured to their little section of the forest, set up for the game. “Did you want a head start? Or – oh! – did you want to add any extra rules?” She had heard of others adding a little twist to the game, and she assumed that people were betting on their outcomes, though that wasn’t something she would bring up herself.
