Nick was running around trying to get things in order. He'd finally saved up enough to open his own bar. He wasn't paying much attention until he heard a familiar voice. He stopped what he was doing and looked around, happy that he was right. "Jess?"

   Her face was nuzzled tightly into the crook of his neck, her hand rubbing his back tenderly. It really seemed like all they ever did was comfort each other recently. Between his sister and the court case their, he had far too much going on. She had a feeling that if it weren’t for the fact that she relied so heavily on him he might not be so strong about it all. She wasn’t sure what to say to him to make him feel better, she rarely spoke to begin with. Still, she needed to say something. Opening her mouth, she tried to find words, but instead found herself closing it. 

   Letting out a sigh, her breath tickled against his neck. After a good minute of sitting there like that, she finally found the words she wanted. “You’re innocent... everyone in that courtroom is gonna know it. You didn’t do anything wrong-- and i’m not going to let them lock you up.” Her words felt like an empty promise, hardly reassuring. Furrowing her brows, she let go of his body, “Let’s do something to get our mind off fo this?” They had plenty of stuff in their room to distract them (( after all she never left it )).

Jess stared at the laptop screen with interesting amounts of frustration. Going through someone else’s browser history was not supposed to be a safe thing to do but Jess was on the hunt for something and Kate’s history was just, well, dull.

“You don’t have anything smutty on here?” Jess called the question out, her voice echoing through the apartment. Clint was out, doing whatever it was Clint does when he goes out so it was just Jess and Kate left. “All I can see is archery stuff and the occasion thing about Kate’s latest case.

“Maybe I should look for something smutty for you. Liven up your history some for you.”

“Hey Katie Kate. Erm, neither you or Clint are answering your phones right now but I think you’ll take this news better than the other Hawkeye. 

“I’m not gonna be home for a few days, maybe longer. Don’t worry, everything will be fine. It’s just this mission isn’t going according to plan and-

The sound of an explosion breaks up Jess’s speech.

“-shit! I gotta go. Tell that idiot I love him, I love Lucky and and I love you too, Kate. You’re too good for Clint. Never let him forget that.”

Another explosion and the line goes dead.

“You might not want one,” Jess said with an edge of concern in her voice, “but you’re gonna need one. You’re getting close to your heat, Bucky. I can smell it on you.”

Jess slumped down in her chair once the debriefing session had finished. It was time to unwind before the next mission landed in their laps. While it was tempting to find a bed and hide in it for as long as possible, Jess was more tempted by another option. “Hey, Wilson?” Jess pulled herself out of her chair and jogged after her fellow Avenger. “Fancy a beer or five and a couple games of pool?”

Jess sat on the ground and watched as the rest of her house’s Quidditch team practised manoeuvres above her head. Hufflepuff had a good, strong team this year and Jess was feeling hopeful for their chances in the cup. She shouted up instructions to the others as they whizzed around on their brooms. She couldn’t stop the huge grin spreading across her face. 

Jess was aware of Kate Bishop’s arrival. The younger witch had certainly been making impression on the rest of the school with her high precision magic abilities. “What can I do for you, Bishop?” Jess asked. “Thinking about joining a Quidditch team or something? I reckon you’d be good at it.”

It was in the dead of night when Jess heard someone come into the apartment. She stirred in her sleep and listened out for a moment, trying to gauge if she needed to kick some random robber’s ass or not. She looked over at the bedroom doorway and saw the outline of Natasha, she realised there was no danger. “Whatever it is,” Jess said with a sleepy voice, “I’m not getting out of bed. So you either get your ass in here with me, or something else. I don’t know any more.”
