Gaius isn’t dumb. He’s seen mages in action. He witnessed Henry smile while blowing someone’s head-off, Miriel setting multiple Risen on fire, Ricken being adorable blowing enemies away with a powerful gust of wind, and to this day, he can still hear Tharja’s laughter as she hexes everyone but Robin. He should be well-aware how dangerous it was to fiddle with magic, especially if it means consuming the product of it.
He knows this... he knows Henry can be a bit of a creep too with his infinite smiles and gleeful expression when it comes to blood and carnage... and yet when he came up to him one day and proposed teaching him how to make artificial candy with magic-- curses, in particular-- his first thought wasn’t to say no.
“...so you’re telling me... you can MAKE candy with your creepy magic?” Gaius asks once more, hesitant, but curious. Sure he had some money to buy his delectable, but if he could just make one without actually baking... he’s all ears, even if it means dealing with a dark mage.
