At some point, Evan had hoped that the excruciating pain that had become that night that Rodolphus had assumed power would dim and become something of a dull ache, but it never happened. It still seemed to burn bright and hot, no matter how much he tried to quash it down.
It made getting through each day feel like a momentous feat, and the exhaustion was starting to get to him. He didn't know how to fight it, how to make it easier for himself. He drank, he did drugs, he slept once for nearly 24 hours straight, but he always woke or sobered up to the same shitty, fucked up world.
It didn't really stop himself from trying and right now he was halfway through another bender, being kicked out of one bar and off to find another when he ran smack dab into someone that looked vaguely familiar through the haze. He held her shoulders for a moment, blinking to clear his eyes. "Narcissa Black," he said after a moment, recognizing her as one of Nellie's friends more than anything else. "Hello. I'm sorry. Also can you buy me a drink? I think I left my wallet back there and I can't go back in. They're being ridiculous about cutting me off because I'm 'making a disturbance'," he said, complete with air quotes.
