sleepless
paging @tincanicarus for plotted thread
It wasn’t really a very difficult mission, to say the least. Yet the casualties were a bit higher than usual, it made most of the team felt anxious to overcome it. Eventually, with some good PR and help from the internal, they would be fine. The media frenzy would decrease as usual after a few days or weeks, the should be fine...right?
Right. It still didn’t help James to overcome how he was supposed to sleep tightly tonight after that certain mission.
It was his fourth mission, after he was cleared to join the team with a few exceptions and rules that bound him when he was out on the streets. People still looked at him funny because let’s be honest here, who wouldn’t be so concerned to put a brainwashed ex-assassin into a team of superheroes?
Hell, even James was concerned. But perhaps it wasn’t the point right now. Right now, he couldn’t sleep again. Nightmares. Faces of innocent people he killed before screaming at him why would you do that? Why did you kill them? Kill ME? It was always like that whenever he was done with a mission. Sleepless nights came through for days, making him more vulnerable and would affect him on the next mission. Which mean, it would be very bad for any of them.
Sighing loudly into the quiet, empty bedroom, James stood up, putting on his t-shirt and sweatpants before walking down to the common room. Maybe some coffee and a change of place would do him good. It wasn’t like there was someone else who still woke up at this dreaded hour, anyway.
Scratch that, there was definitely someone else. Someone whose name was Stark.
James didn’t say anything except a “hey,” to the older man, as a warning so he wouldn’t get too surprised to see James here, and simply stepped out of his sight to the coffee machine. Their initial and official meet didn’t turn...good, after all. So if Stark decided to avoid him, James would likely to do the same and give the man some space he needed.
