Nereida was exhausted after today’s shift at the library. It was a lot of work to try and look up records for Gabi behind Steph’s back. She used to spend her time during her shift reading or staring aimlessly out the window, but she felt she had to keep a close eye on everyone who came our went now, trying to determine if anyone seemed suspicious. It wasn’t the most effective method when she found everyone suspicious and didn’t trust that anyone had good intensions.
Needless to say, when it was finally time to close up for the day, Nereida was eager to leave. She wasn’t too fond of her apartment and tried to spend as little time there as possible, but she couldn’t resist the urge to lay down and close her eyes for the next several hours.
“Okay, I returned the books to their shelves and updated the records. I’m leaving,” Nereida told Steph and didn’t wait for a response as she grabbed her jacket and her phone, which was still receiving texts meant for someone named Linda. She headed for the door as she shrugged on her jacket, but when she reached the handle and pushed, she was met with resistance. Frowning, she gave the door another shove, but it didn’t budge.
“The door won’t open,” she told Steph with furrowed brows. “Is it locked?”
