looking back on it, dax really shouldn’t be surprised that he and taeho were never going to be able to be friends again. it didn’t work out the first time, so why should it have been any different the second time around? there was too much history behind them, too many harsh words exchanged and too many fights and too many negative thoughts. they broke off their friendship for a reason, so why did dax think that this time would be any different?
it had started when they were in high school; dax was so desperate for any semblance of a friend even if he didn’t know that that was something he was even missing from his life. he had hardened himself to loneliness at a young age when he couldn’t keep a friend for more than a week before pushing them away. his family would move again soon so there was no point in having to say goodbyes. it was easy. but with taeho he got to act like he knew what friendship could truly be. they were wild children in high school. they got along swimmingly to the disappointment of probably all of their teachers, causing a ruckus wherever they would go. dax became dependent on someone for the first time in his life. he wove himself into taeho’s life and tried to hold on.
going to midas changed everything. of course dax had to follow his friend there; now that he had someone to call a friend he wasn’t going to say goodbye to him. and besides, dax had been wanting to look into companies anyway, so midas worked. it was fine for a while, they were just like they always had been, but dax was able to meet more people which is something he never would have thought would have been an option: to make friends. sure, he was terrible to most of the other trainees there, but he was able to meet a few people. specifically san. the two of them hit it off almost instantly and dax was able to make a friend that didn’t seem to mind listening to him complain about his feelings like taeho did. it tore dax and taeho apart. dax realized that he could make friends that seemed to actually give a shit about him, unlike taeho.
so reuniting through the music show and now romance and idol meant they could try to mend things. it had been years since they had been in the same room with each other, but eventually they gravitated back to each other and were able to have basically civil conversations. it seemed like it was all going fine this time around.
until it suddenly wasn’t.
“hey man,” dax greeted his friend as he sat down next to him in the kitchen area of the place they all the boys were bunking. the cameras weren’t rolling anymore, it was too late at night for them to catch anything good happening, so the two were in the clear. “so who’d you end up getting stuck with with for the date thing this time?”
