Samuel sat waiting for his sister to join him; they were going to sit down for lunch and talk. He needed to talk to her and immediately. Since returning from his trip he had been thinking about he was going to do with his life and when these plans of being a father.
Karen walked into the public restaurant and she looked around for her brother before she found him. She sat down before him and she licked her lips slowly before she said “now what is going on?” quickly.
Samuel looked to his sister as she finally surfaced and he sighed a sigh of relief. “Finally” he said to her as he sat back in his chair. “We have to talk, I need someone to talk to” he told her.
Karen nodded her head “talk about what though?” she asked him curiously, he was disheveled and nothing like himself. He didn’t even sound like himself through the text he sent to get her here and the phone call he made thereafter.
“This baby” Samuel said leaning into her “no these babies” he corrected harshly.
“Babies?” Karen questioned with a bewildered look upon her face.
“Yes!” Samuel exclaimed “you see the dilemma now” he told her, not truly explaining himself at all and very hard to comprehend.
“She’s pregnant with twins?” Karen asked trying to make sure they were on the same page. She’d surly have to damage control now. Their parents were a mess after the Sunday dinner he broke the news of the pregnant woman to them. But now, to tell them that the woman was pregnant with twins would he the straw to break the camel’s back.
Samuel nodded his head at her, “yes she is. During the doctor’s appointment we attended we found out” he said to her. “That’s why I went on the vacation in the first place Karen. I need to think, I needed time to myself. And in doing that, I now don’t know if I am ready for 2 kids” he breathed. “I tolerate her, because I mean… what else can I do?” he asked the younger girl. “Do I want 2 kids Karen?” he asked her not knowing what to do, he ran his hands through his hair slowly.
Karen looked to her brother and raised an eyebrow at him as he ranted on and on, she listened to him. After he was finished and done she sighed “you made a promise Sam. Are you just going to go back on what you said?” she asked him.
Samuel looked to his sister tapping his fingers lightly against the table, he sighed as he turned his head away from her. “I don’t know” he told her. “I just don’t think I want to be a part of this anymore. I don’t want the strain or the burden” he admitted.
“I think perhaps you need to talk to dad and think on this some more…” Karen told him.
