location: space port on Naboo

Rose bounced her weight from foot to foot in her excitement. Not only was she on a mission for the Rebel Alliance but she was going to get to see one of her friends. Rose didn’t know for sure that Rey would remember her as Rose had no way of knowing if Rey had been pulled from the time in which they had managed to establish their friendship. This played on her mind but Rose wasn’t going to let her worries diminish her good mood.

Rey’s ship landed in the port and Rose rushed over. She kept her distance as the ship powered down but as soon as the boarding ramp extended and Rey emerged from inside of the ship, Rose’s excitement couldn’t be contained anymore (not that it was particularly well contained beforehand).

“Hello stranger!” Rose called out to Rey. She lifted one hand up to wave but realised that perhaps two rebels shouldn’t be calling too many attention to themselves. “Heard you needed a tune-up. Or at least your ship does.”

It should have lifted Shaak’s spirits to detect so many different Force user signatures across the webbed network of the Force as it stretched across the galaxy. Granted not all of them belong to Jedi but there was enough out there to prove that the Jedi’s legacy hadn’t perished during the Purge. But there was no logical way of grouping the signatures together; not like she had been able to before the Purge, when the Jedi Council still existed. And it troubled Shaak that so many of the signatures she was now picking up belonged to those who were supposed to be dead, just like she was supposed to be too.

The Force obviously had a plan but it wasn’t interested in sharing any useful details with Shaak just yet. This led Shaak to the decision to finally leave the ruined remains of the Jedi Temple and search out one of the Force signatures that stood out the most to her. This particular signature was new to her but Shaak’s instincts told her this one was important to the fate of the galaxy.  

Shaak did not have to travel far to find the one the signature belonged to. Reaching out through the Force did not tell Shaak any more than she already knew: this young one had a role to play if she decided to accept it. “Excuse me,” Shaak said as she approached the young woman. “I am looking for someone and I was wondering if you may be able to assist me.”

There were a few unknown pilots scheduled to take part in the Fete week race and that troubled Lando; only because these unknowns threw off Lando’s betting odds. He hadn’t gotten far trying to shake down more information about the pilots at the gambling tables in the main casino so now he was trying his luck in the pitstops where many of the ships that were flying in the race were waiting. A few people were milling about, probably doing the same as Lando in trying to find the best bet.

Lando encountered a young woman who working on one of the ships assigned to one of the unknown pilots. She looked utterly charming and Lando felt drawn to her. Little did he know that one day, decades from now, they’d meet again on Pasaana or that she’d fly his beloved Millennium Falcon. “Nice ship you have there,” he said, a huge beaming smile on his face. “Have you been flying for long?”

Rose didn’t know if this had something to do with the Force or Rey’s Jedi training or another thing entirely. But what Rey was saying concerned Rose. She reached out and took Rey’s hand in hers. “I’m real and I’m here,” she told her friend. “I don’t know if this will work but I can be your anchor, for when you feel like this. I’ll help you figure this reality thing out.”
