alec definitely should've known better. he never stayed in one place for too long. at least, not long enough to have an actual life. he'd get comfortable and get sent to his next assignment, usually to a hospital across the country from where he'd been but this job he'd taken continued to get extended over and over again. and well, he got comfortable and managed to catch feelings for the other despite knowing how hard it would be to maintain things when he went to nurse elsewhere. tears stung his eyes at he looked at the other, "i just don't see how this is going to work..."

"Still and quiet?” he mused, it obviously not being his strong suit. “Is that how you usually do things, Max? I’m starting to feel sorry for Logan.”

“Don’t ask,” he told her, shuddering deliberately visible. “Okay, one word,” he then continued, getting off his bike as they got in line to leave the sector. Making sure to catch her eye, Alec finally told her in an overly dramatic tone of voice, “Normal.”

alec rarely put himself in these sorts of situations. that being, dates. it wasn't for any reason other than the fact that he wasn't in one place for very long. he traveled for work and went where he was needed. regardless of that, when he ran into percy while on his way home after a shift at the hospital, he couldn't help but take interest in the other and he found himself asking him out. to which, he was thankful that the other agreed.

that's how the two of them ended up at dinner together. they were seated outside, which ultimately gave them a little more privacy, and alec was thankful for that. "you know," he started, "i've really had a good time with you tonight." of course he hoped that the other was enjoying his time too. "and this restaurant's good too. you have good taste. i'm always up for trying new places and i think this could be one of my favorites so far." he added with a smile stretched over his face. "so, nala," he began to joke, "do you think i could take this guy out again?" he asked the service animal.

Everything had been dead quiet so far, but Alec knew it was only a matter of time before the entire buidling would be alive with loud noises everywhere. Glancing back at Magnus, the shadowhunter briefly admired his husband who only seemed to shine brighter and more beautifully with every day they spent together. The relaxed features as he slept peacefully gave him something almost angelic rather than demonic. It felt wrong to wake such beauty, but it had to be done. 

Stepping into his black pants, he repeated Magnus’ name a couple of time, until he had both the zipper as button done up and then moved over to the bed to gently shake his lover, all the while saying, “You should get up before Max and Rafe barge in here.” Not that they did that as often anymore. Dealing with teenagers rather than two little kids came with its own challenges though.

Grinning down at her from where he had covered her body with his own as metal shards flew all around them, he whispered “I’m always alright.” 

The bloodstained shirt said something else entirely, but he wouldn’t allow her to see any weakness. He could hear them bursting through the doors, probably expecting everyone to be death by now, and so he figured it was now or never. 

Alec pressed his lips against hers without warning. It was hard and fast, with a hint of desperation. The X5 poured everything he had left in that kiss, but hearing the noises draw closer, he slowly let his body to go limp on hers. Time to play death. His lips remained hovering over hers as heavy footsteps approached the fallen masses. 

Why had she even come here? Didn’t she know he and his people were hunted. Humanity didn’t want them. So why would she?

Because you belong with me, he thought for a split second and he even opened his mouth to say it, but Alec thought better of it. Instead, he took another sip of his whiskey as he looked around the bar at all the people they were putting in danger. “I know, Max. And then you think I’m being the selfish guy here.”
