[Indie] Politely Assisting // Cinderella and Iago
“Oh! Of course!” She hoisted the bucket up onto the ledge and lifted the bird carefully, placing him on the ground below, far away from the well-opening. “How did you manage to get inside of there, friend?” She asked softly, lowering herself to her knees as she placed her hands in her lap. Ella gave the small bird a smile and hoped that perhaps her kindness would win her a smile.
Finally placed safely on the ground again, Iago still clung to the brick he’d carried all the way up with him, even as he gave a full-bodied shake to fling the water off. Flecks of water spattered onto the dirt around him, and on the watching birds, and all over the young woman’s clothing, but Iago didn’t notice. He was too busy frowning in irritation as every feather on his body fluffed up, making him look like a red puffball.
“Aw geez,” he grouched, and finally let the brick drop from his feathery grip. Trying to regain whatever dignity he could, he closed his eyes haughtily and began to smooth his feathers down.
“If you gotta know, I pulled an all-nighter flight and I guess after twelve hours, that lousy wishing well looking like it’d make a good perch, okay? But don’t go chirping and twittering about it -- I got a reputation to keep.” Looking shamefully adorable with his feathers still puffed out in all directions, but also terribly exhausted, the parrot finally opened his eyes again and caught the young woman’s smile. After a great eye-roll, he extended a blue-tipped wing out for her to shake.
“Okay, okay, I get it, I owe you one. Thanks for the help and whatever. The name’s Iago, alright?”
