WHO: katie + cage ( @cagenewman ) WHERE: spring fling
Spring Fling had taken over downtown Merrock in the way only small towns seemed capable of—completely and enthusiastically. The sanctuary booth had finally calmed down enough for her to escape for an hour, though she still had faint traces of hay stuck to her jeans and one suspicious paw print near the hem of her flannel. She’d promised herself she was only grabbing her pre-ordered house sign before heading back.
Katie moved slowly, iced coffee in hand and sunglasses perched on top of her head, her boots scuffing lightly against the pavement. The Newman Family Farm stand overflowed with fresh blueberries, jars of jam, and homemade pies while right beside it sat Cage’s setup—wooden signs lined carefully across tables and hanging displays, each one hand-painted with the kind of craftsmanship that made people stop walking just to stare for a second longer.
"Well," she drawled lightly as she stepped closer, lifting her coffee in greeting, "I was gonna pretend I’m emotionally stable enough not to get attached to a wooden sign…" Her hazel eyes flickered back toward the piece waiting for her. "But unfortunately, you made it look really good."
