The bell above the door of Cobblestone Café chimed softly as Katelyn stepped inside, immediately greeted by the familiar warmth of espresso, cinnamon, and fresh bread that seemed permanently woven into the walls of the place. Honestly, she was starting to understand why people in town talked about this place like it was sacred ground.
Stepping towards the counter with the easy confidence of someone who had already become a regular despite only being in town for a few months, she greeted the barista with a smile warm enough to earn an immediate grin in return. "Tell me y’all have the blackberry scones today or I’m gonna have to emotionally recover." Coffee secured a few minutes later, Katie turned carefully, only to nearly collide with someone standing nearby. "Oh—shit, sorry." The apology came quickly, followed by an amused exhale once she realized disaster had been avoided. "Well," she said, glancing between them and the drink in their hand, "judging by the size of that coffee, I’m guessing you’re either having a very long morning or ending a long-ass night shift."
