Having attended more than his fair share of weddings this year, Rabastan had experienced an unnecessarily large portfolio. They had varied, though a similar thread had run through them all: the desire to outshine the others. It was a typically Slytherin attitude, and pureblood at heart. A little competition was healthy, on the whole. This wedding was larger than all the others, and no doubt its plentiful size was one of the qualities that the Flints and the Vanitys would boast. But it was filled with substandard guests and celebrity sycophants. He didn't know how the couple could bear it. His own patience having run thin, he now stepped outside for some air - and a pleasant absence of lesser-blooded invitees.

Rabastan had been surprised to receive a note from Estelle. Having been recovered for a while, he had not expected to hear from anyone else wishing him well. But despite the timing, he thought it natural that she reacted with polite courtesy upon hearing of his accident. The witch's manners were nothing but immaculate. So he had thanked her and invited her to join him for tea. Though he would have done so nonetheless, he also had another motive in mind; a goblin treasure, taken from a cache retrieved on one of his excursions for Gringotts. Knowing Estelle's expertise with languages, he wanted to show it to her and to hear the translation of the text that marked its surface. He could hardly ask the goblins for this favour, considering he had concealed it from them. There had to be some perks to the job, aside from the thrill of imminent danger and the reward of towers of gold. Rabastan knew a precious item when he saw one; much like he knew an unusual witch, when one crossed his path. Estelle was proving herself as such, the more their acquaintance grew.

After they settled into a private corner, replete with tea and other refreshments, he took a moment to study her, then lightly smiled. "It's good of you to join me, Estelle. Now, I have a confession: I would like your help with something."

His eyes lingered on her a moment longer, before lowering to his cup, into which he heaped several lumps of sugar. The woman was striking. Unlike most other attractive witches, this fact did not seem to become normalised. It occurred to him every time they met, pervading his thoughts with subtle, unavoidable recognition.

It had been a long afternoon. The last thing Rabastan wanted was to be surrounded by Ministry officials, particularly at this point after the war. But here he was, stuck in a room for several hours while they discussed an initiative to restrict dark objects. It was a spectacularly boring subject. He found no value in it. It was nothing more than a grand idea to reassure people that dark magic would not be tolerated, and he could not see a day where people accepted their treasures being de-cursed against their will. But he sat with a tight-lipped smile that expressed polite support, and agreed to assist howsoever the Ministry saw fit. For all the good it would do them.

The only tolerable feature was the presence of Estelle, who had been quietly translating throughout. Rabastan had thought her unusually attractive at the beginning of the meeting. By the end, he'd decided she was truly striking. It was certainly more interesting to watch her than it was to listen to the drivelling old wizards in suits. So his eyes lingered on her intermittently, with steely glances that exuded masculine arrogance. He did not need a woman's permission to look.

As the day finally concluded, he learned from a colleague that the witch was named 'Rosier'. Realising he already knew her, Rabastan could have laughed. But mostly, he wondered when Evan's sister had turned into this siren. He held back as they left, catching her in the foyer.

"Estelle, isn't it? How is your brother? I've been meaning to visit him."
