The cries were piercing, ringing in the blonde’s ears even from a great distance away. The sound bounced off the forest trees causing the others to snicker in amusement as they continued the journey toward the shrilling screams. It could’ve only meant one thing– a lesson being taught. Everyone gathered to watch the show unfold as the man with the wired bat proceeded to let his dominance be known. It wasn’t like her to stick around to applaud, it just didn’t seem right regardless of the insufficient moral standards she possessed. Sometimes she wondered, was the girl she was before as dysfunctional as the woman she was now? Then again, she might never know.
It had been quite the walk through the wooded area before the lights of the site became visible, the rest of the men in a hurry to see the closing of Negan’s big production. The voice was overpowering– louder and more distinctive than any voice she had ever heard. It was his basic speech, once again. She had trailed behind, not wanting to see what damage had been done to the ballsy group that had challenged her ruthless leader. What idiots, she thought. Slowly, she began to turn the corner of the RV, emerging from the left side by the woods to stand alongside some of the others. The first thing she had noticed was RED, dripping from the twisted wires along the wooden bat’s end and spilling along crackled leaves on the forest floor. It wasn’t an easy sight, even though she had seen worse and her eyes turned to look toward the ground for a moment. No one dared to disrupt as the leather jacketed male continued on with his rules, hearing the ruling speech that would bind them to the Saviors. And yet, the leader’s voice faded off for a brief moment and it hadn’t registered that someone had called her name.
“B-Beth?!” Her sky eyes instantly followed the call, falling on her leader’s face before they settled on the strange faces staring at her. Confusion overtook her, looking over her shoulder to see if there had been some mistake on them noticing her but the almost struggled cries made it known that it was definitely her. They were speaking to her. And their deer in head lights expressions all made her feel like there was something she wasn’t getting.
“Beth.. get your lil’ pretty ass over here,” the leader’s voice summoned her and she felt like just standing completely still. But then, she would be the one to feel the wrath. Ever so slowly, her feet began to move one in front of the other till she stood side by side with the man with the bat. She could see them all clearly now. One by one with their distraught and baffled faces peering up at her like she was a ghost– like they had seen her before. “You know any of these fuckers?” Negan asked, his voice overbearing but showed no signs of real anger as his bat pointed toward the line up. It took her a moment, her breathing picking up at the fact that she was so terribly confused, but she scanned each one. The boy with the hat and a covered eye, a man with a regretful look in his eyes, a woman who was sick and bawled the second their eyes met, yet nothing. Nothing registered in her mind and nothing sparked her recollection. Until her eyes made their way toward the end of the row, wrapped in a blanket in between two women that still hadn’t gathered her memories and her mind stalled. She had seen him before. In a dream.. in a memory she desperately tried to piece together, and her eyes dilated at the sight of him. She knew him, she did.. she just couldn’t remember how.
