Harsh technically didn't need to do his own research for his role. He got a lot of information from profesionals on set during the preparations for each new episode. He was supposed to be a dr. A professional, an expert in his own field - though he also played a character who wanted to know more, who didn't mind asking questions and was not worried about looking stupid. His charms helped a lot too.
However, Harsh did appear at the ER on his off-days, intend on learning more, and since he was already known at the place, they would quietly let him sit in his little corner with his notebook and some would even allow him to ask questions. He didn't really consider that he was annoying peopple, thinking they'd shoo him away if they didn't want him there.
He went outside for a quick breath of fresh air and a coffee when he noticed one of his favorite locals, someone who humoured him a lot with his questions. "Chaim, hey! How have you been?" He was totally oblivious to the other's annoyance.
