Ever since he had been discharged from ANBU, he had found himself wandering more and more. It wasn't that he was avoiding people per se, but he simply didn’t want to talk to anyone. He spent his first two weeks without a care in the world. Though, there was little he could do when it was the Hokage that summoned him.
But that didn’t mean he couldn’t arrive a couple hours late.
Kakashi entered the office of the Sandaime and gave a bow before stuffing his hands in his pockets. “Sandaime-sama.”
“Kakashi. You’re as late as usual,” the older man stated, causing the jounin to begin formulating his excuse. The Hokage simply smirked. “It’s quite all right. I anticipated this. Your mission partner should be arriving shortly.”
The word “partner” caused the Hatake’s eyes narrowed slightly, “What exactly is this all about?”
“An infiltration job. I have no doubt that you will preform the task easily, giving both of your backgrounds. Think of it as a way to ease your transition back into being a jounin.” Kakashi nodded and said no more, but the Sandaime continued, “Fair warning, this is a high A-Rank mission and you have the option to decline. It’s very dangerous.”
The masked man gave him a one-eyed smile. “With all due respect, Hokage-sama, but when is it not?”
