my mantra
Hi everyone! Here’s a recently finished project of mine: a Storm at Sea quilt for a friend. I started this waaaay back in 2015, and didn’t finish it until last month! Do you like it?
What’s everyone else working on?
Heeeey everyone! If any of you lovely followers of threadparty happen to be members of the Modern Quilt Guild, don’t forget that sign ups for the MQG Mini Quilt Swap are open until Oct. 25, 2017.
From October 2017 to February 2018, we're holding our second international MQG swap, and all active MQG members are invited to sign-up! Spots are limited according to the number of volunteer helpers we have, but we're accommodating as many people as possible! Once again, we're making mini quilts — no larger than 24" x 24" — with the suggestion (not requirement) that they be themed for your swap partner’s sewing space.
This swap is a one-to-one partner swap, so once matched, participants will know who they're making for and who's making for them. Based on last year’s feedback, members were looking for a greater sense of community, and we think an open swap can help foster a new friendship. #makeaminimakeafriend
The timeline will be from October 2017 to February 2018, and the delivery date will coincide with QuiltCon. If you're going to QuiltCon and your partner is too, we'll have a special meetup so you can swap in person. Not going? Not a problem! Mail your item to your partner, get yours in the mail and join the virtual meetup on Instagram.
You’ll have a Swap Fairy assigned to you to check in during the swap to make sure everyone’s on track. You’ll meet your Swap Fairy and get to know them in early November when partners are announced.
I have volunteered to be a Swap Fairy, and will be assigned a group of swappers to help out and keep track of deadlines and such. Maybe you will be one of them :)
♥,
Lisa (a/k/a threadparty)
MQG info
Your old friend Threadparty has been traveling! I had a wonderful time and saw many interesting places. Here is the yarn-obsessed summary of my trip:
Lots of yarn purchased, as you can see. Estonia and Iceland were the last two stops on my trip, which is when I really started going nuts in the yarn shops. In Denmark and Finland, I was very concerned about over stuffing my suitcase to early in the trip.
Copenhagen: 3 skeins of black and rainbow sock yarn. I feel kind of silly because Denmark has lots and lots of sumptuous yarn, and I ended up only getting some very cheap-o yarn at Tiger, which is a discount chain store.
Helsinki: One lovely skein of hand-dyed, un-plied merino in “screaming green” by Handu, purchased at a lovely shop called Snurre. Recommended!
Tallinn: Two balls of linen lace yarn from Domus Linum, and two rolls of pencil roving, a hank of light worsted blue and white hand-dyed from Kalliver (I think that’s the name).
Reykjavík: Four fat skeins of lopi, and two skeins of Einrúm E+2, a two-ply fingering yarn of icelandic wool and silk. All were purchased from a lovely shop called Storkurinn.
***The last photo is what happened at the security checkpoint at the airport in Tallinn. The woman pulled my knitting out of my carry-on and said, you can’t take these needles on the plane. Then she grabbed a pair of scissors and cut the needles off the cable and took them away! So much for knitting on the long flight home...
Hello, my lovelies! I made you an impromptu valentine with the frayed edges I trimmed from a bunch of quilt fabrics I washed this afternoon.
I need to make a quilt, I don’t have a lot of time, and I’m not sure where to start. I have some fabric, but am in a dither over the design.
