@neurotichonesty moving things along.
It had been a week since Caroline had taken off in the night to go back to Mystic Falls. Jude had been the one to find the note, being the first to notice her absence. He felt guilty for the way he’d reacted but how else were they supposed to take her news after what they’d been through. It was only human to assume she was leaving for good.
Emma was inconsolable. Even after reading the letter, she seemed to recede into herself. She knows that the right thing to do would be to go see the blonde but she’s barely capable of taking care of herself right now.
As she’d planned, she’d broken things off with Jude. He’d tried to refuse but she proved exceptional at avoiding him and freezing him out. It seemed a special kind of talent of hers. Her logic was of course that if she left everyone else first, they couldn’t leave her. Caroline was already gone-- but at least Jude wouldn’t get the best of her.
Jude remains completely torn. On one hand, Caroline needs support but he worries about leaving Emma who refuses to even speak to him. The decision had been weighed heavily before he’d finally made up his mind. He’d tried to say goodbye to her but she’d ignored him, locking him out of her mind again. He’d gotten on a plane and found himself driving a rental toward the town wondering what would become of this.
As he stands in front of her house, he’s hesitant to raise his hand to knock. He’d come this far though, right? He clears his throat, knocking finally, before dropping his head as his thoughts swim over the paranoia of losing both women.
