"i'm making you infinitely more approachable right now."

"i’m not looking," xavier informed her. he made a big show of averting his gaze, but he could see her reflection in the chrome fixtures, a blur of limbs and the glint of fallen fabric. he didn't really need the visuals, because he remembered every dip and contour from the last time, and the time before that. he turned the knob with one foot, letting the water run hotter, and palmed a handful of bubbles, mounding them between his knees as if that might add some privacy to the situation. "there's a towel somewhere. if you need it for your modesty," he said, fighting a smile.

"don't be difficult. it's not cufflinks," xavier said, which was not the same as saying it wasn't another clothing item, but thomas didn't need to know that. "and it's not a suit either. i learned my lesson about that." mostly, he thought. the tom ford suit was still hanging in the closet with the tags on, a $4k reminder of his own lack of insight. "it's also not a car, in case you were waiting for your 'surprise sports car' moment," he continued, not mentioning the fact that he'd already considered it, just briefly, before deciding the hassle of insurance was a dealbreaker.

"classic quitter energy," xavier said, addressing the ceiling with a tragic sigh, but didn't pull his arm from asher's touch. he could feel the heat crawling up his neck despite the bath already going lukewarm. he then bent his knee, shifting so water sloshed over the side, catching asher right in the shin. the tile glistened obscenely beneath the hotel lighting. "see? now you have no choice. you're already wet," he observed, pointing at the slowly spreading puddle between asher's feet. "might as well commit."
