Luce sat up so quickly for a moment she felt a little dizzy. A second ago she had been asleep, but her sleep had been plagued with nightmares. The same nightmares she always had. Luce gasped as she tried to catch her breath. She could still feel the fire on her skin, but then that could be the warm night’s air. Luce was covered in a thin sheen of sweat and pulled her hair back into a messy bun in an attempt to cool herself. She pulled the thin sheet off of her and went to the bathroom, splashing water over her face. Luce returned to the bedroom but had no desire to go back to sleep. Even if the heat allowed her to get comfortable enough to do so the nightmare had made sure that she’d be getting no more sleep tonight. Instead, Luce walked through her bedroom and onto the balcony that all the apartments had. At this height there was a small breeze that helped cool Luce down. She took a seat on the wooden floor and pulled her knees up to her chest, wrapped her arms around them.
