The largest nuclear disaster in the US wasn't Three Mile (even taking into account how a new revelation about the government lying about Three Mile still comes out every so often), it was Church Rock. 100 tons of solid radioactive waste and 93 Million gallons of radioactive tailings flooded Navajo territory after the dam burst. Children lost limbs from radiation burns from the contaminated river they were not warned about. Groundwater was contaminated for decades (and arguably still is). Whenever there was a heavy rain, radioactive heavy metals contaminated surface water again.
The US government has always been willing to poison the Navajo with its nuclear program.
