It found its way to his shoulder, one of the rare times she touched someone in a non-threatening manner. “You probably caught on by now that I don’t know how any of this-- friend stuff works, I guess. But, in my experience, the people who tell me they don’t need to be worried about are the people who need to be worried about most.”
These feelings were confusing for Olivia. She hadn’t been bred to feel affection for those not related to her. Joseph ensured she was the perfect guardian, the one thing keeping the past from repeating. But her protection wasn’t something she could give out freely and now for once, she felt the desire, the need to keep this man safe.
She earnestly hadn’t even been sure she was capable of feeling love besides the people she grew up with. Olivia looked at the ground for the moment before Chris had replied to her. She looked up at him beneath her dark lashes, sitting in the silence with him for several minutes. She was hesitant as she rose her hand, the tense motion proving she had no idea what to do with it.
@threesecxnds: Chris smiles, though there is absolutely no humor in the expression. “No self help card, actually - a psychologist told me that once, years ago.” His eyes drift down to the cigarette. He had smoked before, but didn’t quite see the appeal. After all, if you were going to kill yourself, why not make it quick and painless? This guy was taking the long, painful route to death. Then again, at least he was brave enough to do something.
Chris knew he was a hypocrite, at the very least. His past - and everyone else’s pasts - dictated every day of his life, and would probably rule him for the rest of his life. He considers the offer for a moment before shrugging, stepping forward and deciding to drop the subject. This guy was obviously not in the mood to rescue himself, and Chris could relate.
“Sure, I’ll take one, if you’re offering. Though you don’t exactly look like the kind of guy who’s into sharing.”
Their remark had him shifting against the wall, one foot sliding down the brick noisily, pebbles scratching beneath his shoe before he set it upon the ground beside the other one. His gaze took them in though, followed the lines of their body but his own expression didn’t give way to what he was thinking as he finally sighed, lips lilted crookedly. “Psychologists are overrated,” he muttered under his breath as he went to reach for his pack, this man certainly knew him at least in one regard. Kai didn’t like sharing, not when he didn’t even know them, but that hadn’t stopped him from fucking a guy last night in almost the same spot where they were standing right now. It left a pleasant taste upon his tongue as he thought about it before he shoved his hand into his oversized pouch at the front of his hoodie.
“And you don’t look like the kind of guy who smokes either, yet here we are.” His voice nearly drawled, not caring much if his break was almost over or ten past when he was supposed to have gone back inside. The cameras didn’t work and the bell up front at the door hadn’t gone off yet so he’d take his time until he absolutely had to go back. “C’mere, I’ll light you up ‘less you have a lighter?” The cigarette dangled between his lips as he spoke, embers bouncing before they fell off the end while smoke twirled in between them, taking up space like a body to shield him from the chill of the day.

It had become more and more frequent these days for Olivia to spend time at Chris’s place. She’d tell Reed she was hanging out with a friend for the day, head out then not return until late in the evening. This time when she arrives, Chris is out but she’d learned where he kept the spare key a week or so ago. Olivia glances up as she hears the door unlock, looking back at the TV screen after another brief moment. She isn’t able to really tell how exhausted he is until he’s crawling onto the couch and then resting on her lap.
As unused to touch as she was, Chris has truly assisted her in warming up to it. A smile tugs her lips up, turning her full attention onto him. “Damn, if I’m a sight it really must have been a long day.” It’s instinctual for one of her arms to drape across him, fingers brushing his side as she rolls her head, letting it fall to her shoulder.

now he is STUMBLING over his words. trying to think of some sort of plausible excuse as to why he would be breaking and entering like this. the fact that he was trying to hunt a ghost that was tormenting the public didn’t sound the most believable. in fact, it sounded crazy. “HUH?? nah i mean, i’m just kinda checkin’ the place out. didn’t uh - didn’t think anyone else would be here.”

The words Ambrose had spoke had been well-chosen and quite purposeful. He could sense the power hidden within the other and though he didn’t know its origin nor fully understand what it was of which the man was capable, he had gotten a general read off of him rather quickly. Was this the guy he was looking for? His words were meant to strike a chord in him. He was trying to get a good read, to pry at the possibility that maybe this was who his master had sent him to find. Based on the description, the words Ambrose chose might strike rather close to home with the individual. He still wasn’t sure why he was supposed to find him, though. Was it a revenge thing? Those were always so tiring...
He couldn’t help but snort when the other mentioned playing devil’s advocate, a phrase which he could never take very seriously.
“ Well, maybe... “ A thoughtful shrug as he looked up in thought. “ I dunno, I’d like t’ think that some people have good intentions, yeah? The trick is not askin’ the questions ye don’t really want to have answered... Then again, I guess some people can hardly help themselves. “

[ MEME | ACCEPTING ]
“Totally, I just enjoy laying in the dirt sometimes.” Olivia snapped harsher than intended, one hand squeezing her pant leg in her hand while the other was used to prop herself up. She felt guilt swell in her for snapping at Chris but another stabbing sensation of pain shooting up through her leg. The knife was still embedded into her thigh, not removing it for the sake of not losing any more blood than she already had.
“When I find this fucker again--” the curses and threats slip out on an agonized breath. Her foot scrapes against the ground as she attempts standing, leaning against one of the nearby pieces of furniture for support. “No hospitals” she shoots out suddenly, unprovoked seemingly before she’s sliding back down to the ground in defeat.
uncharted » accepting!
“I’ll just let you do all the ass-kicking, okay?” / @threesecxnds
“Fair enough. I am the one with a blaster and a history of ass-kicking.” Pilot can’t help but sound just vaguely amused, sparing her companion a brief glance before peering back around the wall she’s pressed against. She’s been counting the time between patrols -- it’s not long, but she’s confident she’s got it down enough, and that they can absolutely make it to one of those ships before they’re spotted. From there, it’ll be easy to get out; she’s just got to keep being brave, and slightly stupid.
