“thanks for the assist.” kadri had come at a perfect time. the pilot, while trained in hand to hand, isn’t an expert at it like she is. a smuggler had stopped him in the cantina they’d stopped in to eat and decided to see if he could grab the bounty that hangs over the commander’s head. if kadri hadn’t have come the bar fight that ensued would have ended with poe being aboard a ship that wasn’t his own. glass is still sprinkled in his hair from when the asshole decided to hit him over the head with a bottle.

“you’re very welcome.” she’s smiling, because of course she is, even as she rubs her sore knuckles. she takes a break from nursing her minor injuries to reach out. fingers run through his curls and shake glass shards out before shifting to brush the remnants off his shoulders. “at least one of us knows how to throw a punch with any decency.”

the life of a fighter pilot is going into danger and relying on your skills to get you back. he trusts her in flight and she does in him. they know the risks. the real chance that they will burn up and this is the last physical time they’ll see each other. but he knows that she will survive. “always do, don’t we BB?” the droid beeps a very animated agreement complete with getting out his lighter to give a thumbs up.

when the ships come back, kadri hasn’t heard a damn thing -- has no idea if poe survived or not. she’s just hoping. his job was the most dangerous of all and she knows he would do anything to complete it, including die. “please...” it’s all she can think to do, plead under her breath while she pushes through the crowd, desperately trying to catch a glimpse of him.

HE WANTS TO BELIEVE HER. In truth, he’d been happy when she’d arrived. He hasn’t seen anyone who didn’t wish either harm or darkness upon him since he’d sent Luke’s shuttle flying out into space around thirty years ago. And he’s thankful to no longer be alone here, though he knows that someone else being a prisoner of the Order isn’t exactly good news.

But Anakin has been alone in the darkness for much, much too long. And he’s afraid, afraid that he might fall again, alone, like he did before.

“ you’d be surprised, ” a single, tired laugh escapes him. “ it’s pretty crafty. just be careful. hold on. ”

He’s quiet for a few seconds, before adding, “ maybe now we can find some way out of here. ”

she doesn’t like the way this conversation is settling over her shoulders; threatening to make her think too hard about just how strong of mind she is. can she --- no. the pilot won’t even begin to go down that road. she can’t. her heart belongs to the light, to the resistance, and she will die before she puts either at risk by succumbing to temptation and craft.

kadri glances up when he continues to speak, still only able to move by the eyes while in the containment field. “escape? just the two of us, while we’re being held in containment fields and can’t move at all?” there’s a pause while she considers their odds. “... yeah. yeah, we can.”

“the first order was responsible for the deaths of my family, too.” by her own brother’s hand -- turning him against the people who had loved him all his life. she might never be able to cope with that. and she will personally commit herself to ensuring he keeps his promise to his mother. kadri will never let anyone suffer that way if there’s something she can do about it. kriff, even if there’s nothing she can do about it.

fleeting smile crosses her lips at that. the resistance, a story? maybe. but it’s a true story, one that inspires hope and fights to preserve it. “i’m glad you came looking even if you didn’t entirely believe in us.” chin inclines slightly, and for a moment she’s a regail as she used to be. “yes. i do. and i believe we’re going to bring that end.”

Verik didn’t have to be a Jedi to know the even just a tiny part of the pain that Kadri was going through and he knew nothing he could say would make it right. Instead, his arms moved around her as the panic attack seemed to start happening. He would simply be there for her, hold her through it all.

His voice was soft as he whispered gently. “I’ve got you. It’s okay, just let it out baby.” His body pressed her against the wall, shielding her from the rest of the world. Right now it was just the two of them. “You’re going to be okay. I love you.” Lips pressed against her head. Never in his entire life, had he wanted to take someone’s pain away more than he did right now. She deserved so much. So much more than he ever thought he could give her. “You’re okay. Want me to take you back to your quarters?” The hallway outside of medical was no place her to be. She needed comfort.

trapped between verik and a wall usually carries a very different feeling. now all she feels is... safe. secure. protected from everything that can hurt her, grounded in the moment. her head can’t travel back to her homeworld and the bodies of her family, stood over by her brother. fingers curl tighter into the doctor’s shirt. he’s forcing her to struggle to really breathe, and not just hyperventilate. her head’s packed with emotion in a way it’s never been before. she’s used to feeling like she’s spiraling down to crash into the ground below but... she doesn’t like it this time. she’s scared.

“yes,” she manages after a moment. not being here, open and vulnerable and visible to everyone that wants to gawk at the tragedy... that sounds good. she’s grateful he’ll take her because she doubts she could make it on her own in this state.

well first of all i’m not making a new blog this time, i’m just moving kadri to a new blog cause this one feels overwhelming and disorganized and gross?

and second of all…… no. i’ll take every opportunity i get to be not me. i’ll make a million more characters and blogs, and maybe i won’t use any of them, but for the time it takes me to make one, i’ll be somewhere else, and fuck you, i need that right now.

Was what he had to say, no explanations, no assumptions, he assumed it to be fact. He saw no reason for her not to be able to. Feel his pain. Draw power from it like a sith would.

it’s not the monster she’s afraid of; it’s the intrusion. her mind is a sacred and private space, and she considers her feelings to be much the same. she doesn’t like the idea of his being able to sense them when she’s not actively allowing him to. but without a clear understanding of how it works or how to put a stop to it, she’ll bite her tongue on how much she loathes it. better not give him anything to use against her.

the idea of being able to do it to him... that’s intriguing. and part of her wants to try, right then and there, no further questions asked. what could she find in there, what could she discover? would it be any use? but no, she doesn’t want to stoop to his level. that’s not who she is.

“... do you want me to?”
