What are your thoughts about the Tumblr partner program? No one seems excited and I'm not 100% sure why
to be fair tumblr has yet to announce the details of the program officially and though i’ve joked about joining it, i think there are several concerns that people have about it, but perhaps it mostly boils down to the fact that this came shortly after it came to light that tumblr’s making yahoo lose a shitton of money, so it’s a very unsubtle move to milk as much as money as they can off of the userbase it’s never cared about before they potentially sell this place off to some other place and pass on the cursed artifact that is this site, cutting their losses.
it’s also likely that people who join the program will only be making a pittance regardless of what they make or do, and i think there’s some potential legal/copyright concerns for blogs that make fan content like fanfiction, etc. and honestly, this site is literally barely functioning on a good day and they break their own code every time they try to push some useless visual change forward, so not having a lot of faith in anything the staff try to implement has become a very normalized reaction.
i mean, can you really trust this place with your bank account details when they can’t even push this ad program forward without breaking everybody’s themes in the process?
