sometimes the best way to deal with a situation is to sever it at the knees before it gets a head start ———— something along those lines, at the very least, and given her habit of speaking to him when he least likes to be interrupted ( though, to be wholly fair, there’s hardly a good time to interrupt him, in the end ) he can easily foresee where things are going when he spots her in his periphery. she’s rather hard to miss and whether that’s because of her energy or the whispers that follow her he doesn’t care to parse out / simply that SHE’S HERE and she’s about to interrupt him.

❝ you, ❞ he doesn’t bother looking at her directly as he addresses her, blade sweeping through the air as a wooden training stand crumples before him. and what a sight !! what a scene !! felix of house fraldarius speaking to someone before they can speak to him. well : he may have an ulterior motive. or he’s just impatient. ❝ you’re always bothering me. what do you want? ❞

          for  the  first  time  in  what  feels  like  weeks,  tanjiro  has  finally  been  given  the  all - clear  to  leave  his  sickbed  and  take  a  brief  tour  around  estate’s  garden.  the  muscles  he  tore  in  his  fight  against  the  lower  moon  five  demon  have  been  slow  to  heal  —  at  first,  even  the  slightest  twitch  of  movement  brought  with  it  a  fresh  wave  of  agony,  but  as  he  takes  his  first  tentative  steps  out  into  the  early  spring  morning,  he  feels  little  more  than  a  dull  twinge  along  his  calves  and  torso.  soon,  as  shinobu - san  had  informed  the  three  of  them,  they’ll  be  fit  enough  to  begin  their  rehabilitation  training,  and  while  he  still  doesn’t  understand  exactly  what  that  entails,  he’s  looking  forward  to  leaving  the  confines  of  the  hospital  bed  for  good.

          stiffly,  tanjiro  lowers  himself  down  onto  the  edge  of  the  veranda  overlooking  the  garden,  letting  his  legs  stretch  out  into  the  warm  sunlight  as  he  takes  a  moment  to  rest.  he  tilts  his  head  back  to  watch  the  clouds  dragging  slowly  across  the  sky,  a  gentle  smile  reaching  his  lips  as  he  listens  to  the  bright  burst  of  birdsong  that  fills  the  air,  signalling  the  start  of  a  brand  new  day.  out  of  the  corner  of  his  eye,  he  notices  a  sudden  flash  of  movement  and  turns  his  head  to  greet  the  newcomer,  expecting  it  to  be  aoi - san  or  one  of  the  other  girls  taking  care  of  them  during  their  stay.  however,  the  girl  approaching  him  (  wearing  the  demon  slaying  corps  uniform,  he  notes  curiously  )  isn’t  someone  he’s  familiar  with.  perhaps  she’s  lost?

          in  an  effort  to  offer  assistance,  tanjiro  calls  out  to  her,   ❝   ah  —  are  you  looking  for  shinobu - san?  i  think  she  just  left,  but  aoi - san  might  know  when  she’ll  be  back!  i  can  take  you  to  her  if  you  like?   ❞
