22, 23, 29 please :)
I did 29 here
23. If you were to revise one of your older fics from start to finish, which would it be and why?
I wrote a fic early on that needs a serious revision. It was before I had a beta, before I knew what to capitalize and how to use commas correctly, before I understood staying in a perspective. And don’t get me started on the adverbs. But, I actually love the plot. It’s called “Uptrade” and it’s a cute little Voyager-family Naomi thing. PLEASE don’t go looking for it. I plan to revise it and put it on AO3 sometime soon – it’s the only thing of mine that never made it over.
22. Choosea passage from one of your earlier fics and edit it into your current writingstyle. (Person sending the ask is free to make suggestions).
Ooh. You’re going to make me work, are you? You stinker, you.
Ok. Cause this goes hand-in-hand with #23 (as you knew it would), here is the very beginning of a revised “Uptrade.” (I should really go remove that story until I can redo it…)
“I once heard of aman, a very skilled trader, mind you, who took a single piece of over-ripefruit and ended up with his own starship!”
“Really?”Naomi asked, eyes narrowed. It had been quitesome time since she had found herself listening to one of Neelix’s tales, evenlonger since she had truly believed one of them, but the mess hall was quiet, the lemonade, sweet, and she had all afternoon with nothing better to do.
“Oh yes, let’s see.I think he traded the fruit for a container of water. The water for a tool. Thetool for… uh, the tool…” The Talaxian scratched his head. “You know, Idon’t remember all the details, but you get the picture. Each trade added justa little tiny bit of value until eventually…”
“He got a whole ship?”Naomi’s thoughts began to race. If thisstory was even a little bit plausible then maybe, just maybe…
“That’sright.”
“So, if I tryreally hard I could trade up and own Voyager?”
Neelix relaxed back inhis chair with a grin. “Mm, I’m not sure about that. Captain Janeway seemspretty attached to her ship, and in a way, Voyageralready belongs to all of us.”
Naomi’s face fell. She went back to stirring her lemonade.
“But it couldn’thurt to try,” he recovered. “I’ll tellyou what…” Neelix rose from his seat and walked over to the kitchencounter. He spun a bowl of fruit sitting there around and cast a playful glanceback to Naomi. “I’ll give you this apple…” he tapped each one in turn thenselected the nicest one and rubbed it on his shirt. “Yes, this one right here. Take this, and see what you can do withit.”
