act i. the call of the void
the shadows appeared to reach for her, but her feet were glued to the floor. just a bit closer, they seemed to croon, beckoning her into their clutches. everything was the Void, and the Void was everything; hissing, washing over her with a lulling hum.
act ii. the numbers don’t lie
the first couple of times he had been in the presence of one of them, teejay had been in such awe, coupled with terror; fear of what could be beyond those black swirls. now, they were just another part of the job.
nothing a good piece of IBIP equipment couldn’t handle.
act iii. secrets of the hill
the Void came up to meet her in a cloud of smoke, and as it enveloped her, she let herself fall into its welcoming embrace.
act iv. allies in shadows
“it’s okay,” she said softly, holding out an arm in front of her, like one would do when approaching a feral animal. her other hand was stuffed deep into the pocket of her coat, and baby wasn’t sure she wanted to know what kind of weapon was hiding in there.
act v. the untethering
peach vigorously shook her head. “let’s get this goddamn thing over with.”
