Music Tech Ireland wrap-up
A gaggle of managers, record label people, musicians and techies gathered in a wi-fi free room in Smock Alley yesterday for the first meeting of an organisation which doesn't exist yet - Music Tech Ireland.
The idea was to start bringing together music tech companies with the music business. It was a great opportunity for start-ups to meet potential allies and clients and get instant feedback.
WholeWorldBand, ourselves, Infonalis, Riffstation, Mobanode, Ticketfriend and In Your Own Time all presented to a robust room full of opinion.
Linda Coyle from Enterprise Ireland explained the supports available for startups to a gob-smacked muso element who had no idea such great schemes were in place.
Angela Dorgan from Hard Working Class Heroes made an exciting announcement about their new digital initiative which they reveal full details on tomorrow here.
Soundwave's spectacular launch was discussed glowingly in their absence which attendee Jim Carroll had earlier covered on his Irish Times Blog - cheers for the Gigstarter mention Jim!
A great gathering which we'll do again soon - there's a great music tech scene growing here in Dublin and we'll get further faster together!
Onwards now to this weekend's Youbloom festival where both Donal Scannell and Mick Birmingham from Gigstarter are doing panels on Saturday. Mick is on a panel at 1pm on Saturday called:
"Crowdsourcing: How to make it work for you! How artists are using alternative means through a direct artist to fan relationship to develop albums, fund gigs and tours and keep the bank managers happy!"
Donal is up at 3pm on Saturday with on a panel called:
"Marketing: If I wanted to work in marketing I would never have joined a band! Marketing tips for reluctant marketeers from the marketing experts."
Looking forward to meeting those coming from all over to world to Dublin for Youbloom!
