Royal Affairs

"Your Majesty."

The call earned no response from Figaro's King, his gaze fixed somewhere far off into the distance. He was tired - so very, very tired - and had been unable to focus upon the issues presented to him for much of the evening. Edgar would respond with a dismissive wave of his hand wherever possible, or a brief statement where his opinion was required, keen to adjourn his meeting with the councilmen.

Now it seemed that his attention had wandered altogether as he sat slumped in his throne, cheek pressed into a closed fist.

There was a harsh clearing of the Chancellor's throat, followed by a repeat of the call - firmer, this time.

"Your Majesty!"

Only then does the blond level his gaze upon the man before him, warily eyeing the document held between his hands. The broken seal is mostly what held his attention, brows furrowing as he tried his best to make out the source of the crest upon it. Edgar failed to recognise it in good time, which made him somewhat uneasy given the many broad smiles upon the faces of the men around him.

Something was up.

"Since there are no longer any remaining Monarchies in our world to make negotiations with, we have extended our search further afield in an attempt to find you a suitable wife..."

"--And you've found one." Edgar interrupted, to which the wretched grin on the Chancellor's face grew further.

"Yes, Your Majesty. A young lady from the Kingdom of Tycoon, Her Royal--" The poor man stopped mid-sentence as a wine glass flew straight into the wall behind him and shattered upon impact, having just narrowly missed his head.

It seemed as though the conversation was over, for their leader had stormed from the room without a word, leaving the rest of the council to mutter amongst themselves. The Chancellor - once settled from his initial shock - could only laugh at the situation, having known full well that getting the King to warm up to the idea would never be an easy task.

"Well... I'd say that went well, wouldn't you?"

"It’s an unfortunate fact o’ life that th’ more chance I have of being able t’ kick th’ shit out o’ a man if he ever decides t’ force me adds t’ how attractive I find him.

"But aye, we’ll call it buttering up."

Partying was the last thing on their mind - the though of throngs of people, gaggles of men - made them sick in a way they couldn’t describe. All they wanted was a blanket and a book, a dragon and a warm fire. 

And yet…And yet to disappoint her would be a crime. So cheerful a woman…

Their brows drew, the softest breath quivering from them.

"I doubt you’d reconsider f’ a quiet drink and getting drunk t’gether? I… cannae stomach people right now."

"Ah, the captain reveals his true colors at last! Secretly a sensitive introvert, huh? Bet you like poetry, too." She grinned and put her hand on Faris's. "Don't worry, I can keep my mouth shut 'bout it. I know the value of a good reputation."

"If you wanna stay in tonight, we can do that. So long as the booze is comin' from your stores, you won't hear complaints from me." She narrowed her eyes with a playful little smirk and tapped her fingers against his knuckles. "But I expect you to watch your hands, Captain. Or not. As the mood strikes us."

I really hear you - I speak french (not fluently, like you do english, but well enough I can get by) but my main problem is often how fast people talk. But god forbid asking someone to slow down or repeat themselves |:

Oh yeah, I get you, I do. I mean, I've never had a problem with the speed, but I think it's mostly because the people from the region I'm from speak Finnish REALLY fast. so, you know, I keep up, because I speak really fast myself. but you know how like, headphones and stuff can be, the audio is sometimes REALLY horrible so I literally can't make out the words. because, as mentioned, I have a really bad right ear. Brie and I never had a problem speaking face to face because I could SEE her speak, I saw her mouth form the words so it was easy to understand even if I couldn't hear her, but if it's a skype call with no cam, y'know. not so easy.

but yeah just, native speakers need to get a grip, man.
