At this, Faith shuts her mouth and strides out of the room. She knew she had to change her plan.

Mrs. Tidwell, this post is very inappropriate. Proverbs 20:19, Ephesians 4:29, Leviticus 19:16, 1 Timothy 5:13, and more make God’s stance on slander and gossip clear. You did not need to mention my family when announcing this courtship, you could have shared Brenda’s testimony to patience and left it at that. It is very disappointing to see a sister in Christ act this way.

“Ironic, then. Perhaps it is you, or perhaps it is being free from my underground prison, but I don’t feel so sorrowful. Life is sorrowful, and God hears my cries just to turn His face from my despair, but even in the thick darkness of His abandonment you have helped me find some light.”
“Cool. Wanna go commit a B&E at the library?”
“Undoubtedly.”
“...and that’s our plan. What do you think, Adam? Will you court Maeve?”
“Let me get this straight: you’re not, and you want me to date Maeve to hide that, but I can’t marry her?”
“Yeah, pretty much.”
“And Merritt agreed, too?” Adam turns to him. “What if you want to date someone for real?”
“If I did, my parents couldn’t meet him anyways,” Merritt responds flatly.
“It’s easy for you to agree to this, then,” Adam scoffs.
“If you find a girl you like for real, then Maeve can break up with you,” Faith says. “All the social repercussions will fall on her, but it’s to our advantage if she’s seen as vilely un-dateable.”
“Fine.” Adam stares at the snow. He didn’t intend to date anybody, he intended to run away. But the last thing he wants is more restrictions on his life, so he had to make sure Faith would let him have some freedom. “I’ll date Maeve.”
“Thanks, Adam.” Faith grins. “I owe you big time.”
