Personality: Cunning and tactical. He’ll take advantage of any situation he can to get the ultimate gain. He hates others though and has lived a life of solitude for hundreds of years. People irritate him with everything they do, touching him or trying to talk to him without his permission.

However, when mistaken for a god he immediately jumps on the idea and uses this position of power to get free food, money and entertainment.

This is the eponymous Temeraire, a Chinese Celestial (or Tien Lung) who is captained by the British William Laurence. I highly recommend the series if you haven't read it; it's fantastic!
