Watching Tier Zoo and the phrase "mitigate the blindness debuff" about dogs is the best thing I've heard all day XD

(That thing you see the very good sheppie dog doing? Stopping their handler from being hit by a car? Yeah. Petey's done that at least three times for me. o_o Guide dogs are trained to actively push a handler back with their bodies if they're about to be hit by a car. They're very good dogs!)

Oh boy, I’m not a fan of TierZoo. The concept of ranking animals, especially in gaming terms, really rubs me the wrong way. Trying to conceptualize organisms, past and present, in such terms seems disingenuous, misleading, and perhaps supremacist (the conceit that some animals are inherently "better" than others). 

Even relating animals so strongly with gaming can fall very quickly into the pit of desensitization and sensationalism. I’m just a person who enjoys casually learning about biology, so I'm also curious what professional biologists think about TierZoo and if they have similar criticisms of his work. 

True, gaming can teach us a lot about the world around us, but taking it to such extremes like TierZoo does where the subject matter starts to get so oddly detached from reality is off putting. I think the problem with TierZoo is that there's a lack of nuance, depth, and frankly maturity. You can only take the gaming analogy so far before it starts becoming patently absurd and flawed. Edutainment can be fantastic, however when done like this I think it could do more harm than good in the long run.

I'm a biased frog appreciator so I was a little offended when not all of the frogs were in S-tier where I would put them, but overall I think he makes a valid and thoughtful argument for the ranking.

NEW TIERZOO

This is a video from Tierzoo, a channel that pretends that earth and the eco system we live in is a game and explains everything in gamey terms.

Continents are just servers, different species are the roster with different builds, changes in the environment are balance patches and so on. Everything is ordered in tiers of viability and so on. This particular video is about the climate change balance update, (bad patch, didn’t nerf human intelligence). It’s such an interesting channel and I can only recommend the channel.

Additional funny thing: Tier means animal in german (and zoo is still zoo) so for a german it also translates into animal zoo

To Tier Zoo, one the greatest edutainment channels on Youtube. If you havn't heard of his stuff before, he uses video game jargon to rank animals as if each species was video game class.
