Charles Lewis Tiffany (February 15, 1812 – February 18, 1902) was an American businessman and jeweler who founded New York City's Tiffany & Co. in 1837.

Known for his jewelry expertise, Tiffany created the country's first retail catalog and introduced the English standard of sterling silver in imported jewelry in 1851.

Louis Comfort Tiffany (February 18, 1848 – January 17, 1933) was an American artist and designer who worked in the decorative arts and is best known for his work in stained glass.

He is associated with the art nouveau and aesthetic art movements.

08/25/2017 - the countdown to my french exam continues... according to the old exam date i have 28 days to go but someone else who needs to take the exam won’t be in town the day it’s scheduled for so it may either get pushed back or forward a week. i would have to make some adjustments to my study schedule either way but we will see.

i started another reading for quals today - a lil article by greg woolf on romanization of the greek east. i made it about halfway before i got hungry and needed to go home. the office was pretty quiet for most of the day - i thought i’d include a photo but our offices have no windows and are pretty depressing since none of the new cohort has put anything on their desks yet. idk what they’re waiting for - i loved jazzing up my desk when i got here. like. your!! own!! desk!! it’s the best thing imo.

anyway since our offices are depressing and windowless i opted for a nice photo of our library and its lovely tiffany window~

if i gave this photo a title i’d call it ‘the calm before the storm’
