4, 5, 11, 21, 26? 💞
Dearest Esther! Hello! Thanks for the ask <3 I hope you're well.
#4 and #5 are answered below!
11: Are there any tropes that you particularly enjoy writing?
I have a few, but rivals to lovers or not-quite-enemies-but-close to lovers is one I really love. See: Speak for Yourself, Love Game, Seven Years, (Not) A Cinderella Story, Luck of the Draw. Those tropes allow for a wealth of snarky banter. Which I love.
(I can't tag to ao3 for some reason but you know them anyway lol).
21: Have you ever used fanfiction as a way to explore your own emotions or personal experiences?
I would say yes, but not in any specific fic. I think I just allow my personal experiences to come out in smaller ways. For example, Alex is a lawyer in a lot of my RWRB fics (because it's canon, but also because it's a great way for me to vent my frustrations about the industry). Alex is also a type A perfectionist who expects a lot for himself and has very limited patience - something which I relate to very intimately. I think Henry allows me to explore a lot of my insecurities, Carlos gets a lot of my anxious traits, I sometimes infuse TK with my own self-doubt, and for particularly angsty-TK, feelings of self-hatred.
Writing is a very vulnerable experience. People read what you write and they may never know that what you've described a character feeling is something you're going through yourself. But you know and that makes it scary, but it's also a great way to make the emotions really believable.
26: How do you approach plot twists or surprises in your fics?
I don't do a lot of plot twists per se, but if I write a surprise I'm usually mean about it and leave a chapter on a cliffhanger and make people wait ;)
Thank you again!
Send me an ask to relieve my airport boredom!
