Allen Antique Mall, Allen, Texas. Made an offer on this piece Saturday morning at an antique mall and now it's ours 😄👍. Now we just have to come back and pick it up next week, when it's not raining, and take her home to Fort Kickass.

Quarter-Sawn Oak and Tiger Oak (Pictured: two Tiger pattern Quarter Sawn oak buffets, sold by Emerald City Antiques at The Antique Gallery; diagram of Quarter Sawing cuts from Hardwood Distributer’s Association) Quarter Sawing is a technique of processing lumber which creates lengthwise patterns from being cut at an angle against the annual rings of a piece of lumber. To achieve this, a log is first divided crosswise into quarters, then parallel cuts are made diagonally to the quarter’s edges, dividing the lumber into flat boards. In addition to its aesthetic qualities, quarter sawn wood is valuable due to its durability and building stability. It is however expensive to use, as its unique processing creates smaller and fewer boards per raw log as opposed to traditional plain sawing. All of these factors add to the extremely desirable, collectible nature of pieces constructed from quarter sawn wood.
Tiger Oak is the name given to a particular pattern of Quarter Sawn oak that resembles the stripes of a tiger. Take a walk through dealer 0033′s booth right now and you will definitely see a few beautiful pieces of Tiger Oak furniture! Find them, and many other beautiful unique pieces, at The Antique Gallery of Lewisville.
