Snap!! I’m doing the same thing. Getting things thrown out. Cleaning out rubbing. I threw away makeup I have now had for close to ten years! I want a minimalist home. I want things thrown away so next year when we are in a place to renovate we can. It’s so cathartic throwing things away that you do not use and do not love. I’m doing the bathroom now and later all my clothes!!!
my house was in relatively good shape until i had depression hit, and hit hard, from late 2013-mid 2015. i had a lot of things happen during that time that i wish i could go back and change, but i don’t obsess over. i’m going to use this “time off” to my advantage. if I’m going to do things with my life that i really want to do, my house has to be ready for it.
about 10 years ago, give or take, i moved twice in two years, once from NorCal to SoCal, and the second time from downtown LA to out in the South Bay. When I moved to the South Bay, I ended up in an apartment that was no more than about 500 sqft (and it is possible that it was even smaller than that). When I moved into that place, I had about 25 boxes of stuff in my place that I didn’t unpack (so, basically, I was living among boxes). It took a couple of years, and I took a long holiday weekend and went from 25 down to 5. I got rid of so much stuff and it felt so good. I need to do that again. I need to be ruthless in my tossing stuff out.
I was thinking about it this morning and, initially, was thinking that I’d break down all the boxes I have (amazon, anyone?) and get rid of them and then realized that would not be the best thing to do. First: separate stuff into keep and toss (with the keep stuff in boxes) and once i’m done with everything, go back through the boxes of stuff i set aside to keep and figure out where it needs to live. i know i need better storage (as in: any storage) and i’ll end up buying something for that (shelves, make put a linen closet in my hall closet, that kind of stuff). once I’m done with the part of the house i live in, i need to go through the one room (the second bedroom) that i use for storage and do the same thing. that one room will probably take as long as it takes me to go through the rest of my house.
I just, I need to have a place where I live, not a place where I... i don’t know, reside? I need a home, not a house.
