#C&C Irish

Tigin Irish Pub & Restaurant is where we started our day yesterday in Downtown St.Louis. Walking into the restaurant, you immediately notice that they tried to make it look like an Irish cottage. What I thought was great about this place is the fact that they kept everything traditional. All the decor that you see comes straight from Ireland. Everything you eat and drink here comes from Ireland. So, it was really cool to get to try things and see things that are directly from Ireland and I think that makes this place really special. One thing that I found interesting that was discussed during our Q&A was the Guinness that they have in their restaurant. Guinness comes straight from Dublin, Ireland and when it gets here all of it gets stored in a warehouse (so does the food) for 2-4 weeks. Many people that visit Ireland will comment about how the Guinness tastes much different than it does in America. They taste different because there's a Guinness Brewery in Dublin, so it’s local and very fresh. In Ireland, they also drink it warm. While here in America, that Guinness is being shipped and stored for 2-4 weeks and it’s served cold and that’s why it tastes different.

You’ll see in the picture below a dish called “The Irish Breakfast”. Talk about a lot of protein. This dish includes 2 eggs, Irish sausages (bangers), rashers (real bacon that looks like ham), black pudding (made out of blood usually from pigs and mixed with fat and oatmeal), white pudding (made out of oatmeal and beef suet), mushrooms, and tomatoes.

I actually enjoyed most of my meal. My two favorite things were the rashers and the white pudding. The black and white pudding definitely had a weird texture to it. I personally thought the black pudding tasted very “earthy” and it just wasn't my favorite. I also liked the bangers. I was weirded out at first because when I first bit into it I felt like it had this sort of bread type texture, but it was sausage. It was really weird, but also very good. The only thing I didn't really care for was the black pudding. Let me tell you... this meal is enough to keep you full all day. I definitely did not want to eat the rest of the day. One thing that they also suggested (that I also did not care for) was the sauce that they had on the table. It’s called HP sauce and basically, it’s like A1 sauce and ketchup combined, but with a lot more flavor and that flavor is strong and my taste buds definitely didn't care for it, but I did try it. Some people liked it and some didn't it just depends on your preference. I just used regular ketchup!

The people working there were also great and provided us with great information about the food, the restaurant, and the culture of Ireland. it was nice to go to a place that had so much to share with us. All in all, I really liked this place and I would definitely come back. Great food. Great people. Great hospitality. Great information.
