scoffing at mary jane’s remark, nicole leans on the locker door, her gaze examining the box from afar. “maybe there’s a SECRET compartment.” she suggests “or maybe there’s something written inside the wrapping paper.” truth is, she really has no clue about which one could be, but one things is sure --- whoever knew about it could have just decided to collect money or something. “as my uncle says.. a gift is a gift, but well... i’d make sure there are no spy cameras inside.”

Peter is accustomed to claiming he’s fine. He’s done it a million times before, what’s another? It’s been a rough week. One where he gets shaken awake by nightmares invading his sleep just about every night, which shows as he goes about his daily routine. People ask if him if he’s alright when they see him nearly falling asleep in class, the dark circles decorating the space underneath his eyes, the faraway look in his gaze half the time. And it’s the same mantra every single time. But if anybody doesn’t believe it, he’s not surprised it’s Mary Jane that confronts him. 

“I–” Unsure what else to say, Peter pauses for a moment, chewing on the inside of his cheek. He can’t simply tell her about waking up in a cold sweat every single night. “I’m okay-seriously, don’t worry. It was just– you know, homework and projects and stuff, stayed up late, I’m just tired, it’s nothing to worry about–”

“You need to eat something, you’ve been through a lot today.”

          “ Oh...! I’ll, uh... I’ll get right on that... ”

He’s only going to get a pizza. Cross his heart and hope to die. Peter’s one wish, at that point, was that she’d somehow not heard the police scanner.

            ♙  A SMALL SMILE HINTS THE YOUNG OSBORN’S LIPS   as his gaze fell down to the ground for a couple of moments.  he sighs,  rough,  as a hand comes up to rub at his eyes,  doing his   BEST   to not let tears come.  he was frustrated,  upset and angry with a lot of things right now but had held it for   SO LONG   yet mj   . .   she could see right through him.  a relationship that crumbled to the ground he desperately wanted to salvage as his chest ached like a open wound.

STARK    TOWER    WAS    WONDERFUL  !    sure,     you    didn’t    enjoy    the    stares,    considering    you    were    supposedly    dead,    but    that    was    besides    the    point.    and    she’s    here.    ❝  this    is    insane,    don’t     you     think?  ❞    she’s    the    only    girl    here    that    isn’t    part    of    the    runaways,    and    well    you    might    want    some   more    friends.

               “MARY-JANE! UH, I, UH, HEEEEY. UH. HOW’S IT GOING?”     suddenly your tongue is in a thousand knots and the words you had intended on saying -- something normal, a simply ‘hi’ would have sufficed -- have been thrown to the wind. why is it that you can hardly keep yourself together when you’re talking to people?

Peter makes a face, clearing his throat awkwardly as he shifts his weight from one foot onto the other. He refuses to let MJ believe that even for a mere moment he was jealous, purely on principle now, Peter thinks to himself as he shakes his head. “No I, uh -- no. I definitely am not jealous,” he tells her, though they both know he’s a terrible liar, and this isn’t helping his case.  “Cute?” Peter repeats, scrunching up his nose. He’s a masked vigilante, he’s not cute. Aunt May always calls him cute, and Peter refuses to believe that. “What would I have to be jealous about, anyway?”
