a life-sized container for my love!
What if the tihtbilwy blog posts were Mahiru posting about what she wishes she could be doing with her bf but never showing her bf since she wanted everyone to think it was her arranged partner
The most glaring thing about Mahiru’s report to me is how they absolutely did not plan their run away well, if at all. The report says it was a plan, and not an emergency escape, and I don’t know if it being at the very last minute, the night before the arranged wedding makes me believe that more or less…
Like… What clothes did they pack? What food? What supplies? Did they have a car to use? Money? A route? How much did they bring, did they have to haul stuff around everywhere? They don’t seem to buy or steal or acquire new clothes. I see them with zero bags in Daisuki, I mean yeah they had probably lost all their stuff by then but…
I was thinking we don’t really know how long they were out in the wild for, but a few months in and they were forced to the mountains apparently. They couldn’t have been enjoying their travels living off of Mahiru’s allowance because their location would have been discovered extremely easily (especially if her blog was actually real, lol, but it’s clear the stuff there isn’t from their time away from home) Maybe Mead at least brought a rope, but he could have also easily found on in aokigahara. It would make sense for them to be living off Mead and money given to him by Mahiru, Mahiru would be happy with anything and that’s not safe at all
Also, I suppose, why did they ever think running away would work or last them?? Where were they expecting to go? What were they expecting to do? Did they forget about the police and Mahiru’s rich overprotective family?
Who lead the idea even? Surely Mahiru forced him into it expecting everything to work out, since it’s not like she’s known hardships before, but what about her boyfriend?
Maybe Mead was always planning to die with Mahiru, leading her to a forest with such a reputation. Why else would you hide in THE WILD? THE MOUNTAINS? Is it really worth it? It’s more dangerous than anything I doubt he was as foolish and lovestruck as her, but Mappi is incredibly likeable. That seems to contradict the report though… He also never did the easy thing of just going to the police and explaining the situation, so presumably he wanted to die more than to be saved and helped. We won’t know if that’s because he was already depressed before they ran away and was planning die for forever? because of Mahiru (the apparently cannon one)? Because he loved her so much he wanted to die with her?
I can’t help but say props to the writers for figuring SOMETHING out to still traditionally shock the fans and make us regret our verdicts again. Something that doesn’t retcon anything major and ties in the things that were left behind ANNOYINGLY well. Like one that jumps out to me was that timeline where she talked to Kazui all alone at night (I think?) and they joked in cannon that it was scandalous, and I’ve seen theories about if she was a cheater, especially paired with her insistence that she’d never do that, yet us strangely never seeing just one identifiable man in her t1. But now we know, of course she’d want make contact, she was literally banned from it! And of course she couldn’t show Es (or maybe even herself? Like some acceptance thing ooo) or any viewers of her blog if it were real, since they should be presuming that love story is with her arranged partner. This could explain the potential difference in the location they met in the report compared to her blog (I’m pretty sure the terrace could have also been where the swap meet happened but it doesn’t look like there’s many people around in that dedicated section where she brings it up. I took the scene literally like, Mahiru was just reading one if her romance books, a boy says something to hear which she doesn’t hear, or maybe asks her to move her seat, and she says - mouths in the MV - her sweet little “gomenne!”) In her t1 also, that whole “his hobby is running, so I practiced my running” RUNNING AWAY HUH. Maybe she was picking her favourite clothes to take with her (you know her, she’s not very astute), or maybe recording a diary so she could remember those places and clothes, living her lavish life to the fullest before her time ran out… The day format might be like counting down the days until the runaway. AND! Maybe her job and the flower shop was to learn about what plants her edible or had healing properties… highly doubt it though, it’s obvious how badly they (she?) planned it I think she’s too silly for that. Food for thought. Trying to make something out of what little we have.
Then of course there’s the birdcage which actually brings me into more discrepancies: why is the blue bird also in the cage? The point of that metaphor of “a cat trapped in a birdcage” was really cool, especially since those elegant showy cages aren’t healthy for birds or cats, taking that part away makes the daisuki “cat gifting mice for its owner” flatter too. I suppose he’s definitely trapped in that relationship, but Mahiru isn’t trapped with HIM, she’s trapped in a different situation which is only so suffocating to her because it’s without her boyfriend. We know love and her boyfriend is all she really cares about. To be fair, only the feathers are seen in that cage with her (hinting towards either the theory that they never had any sort of relationship to begin with, or maybe that he was already long gone, like my cycle theory) We never see her escape this cage tho, even at the end when she supposedly has already found him dead, with that shocked face of hers, she’s still in there. We don’t see the cage locked, so suppose it had an open flap but she was keeping herself locked in it, locked in the concept of “I must marry and spend the rest of my life with whoever I fall in love with”. But does that mean the arranged marriage is not (or not just) what the birdcage represents?
It’s also possible bluebird is not Mead Teawood at all, since a cat couldn’t give more prey to its prey. So maybe bluebird is the arranged guy? Since they’re both trapped in that thing. I like that idea a lot, it also kinda shows how Mahiru never saw him but felt his impact (feathers everywhere, but no bird) I suppose even when she runs away, even when she sees mead dead, she’s not free the police are still looking for her and she’s still probably legally bound to that arranged marriage.
