At long last made a pilgrimage to the freshly restored #tikibob in San Francisco today. It’s stood vigil on this corner for over 60 years, enduring countless establishments (painted over) long after its tiki bar incarnation. #alohafriday Finally got my hands on one of those rare and coveted vintage @tradervicsworldwide “Trading License” souvenir placemats from Honolulu, Hawaii. This one’s dated 1955 and is in crispy clean shape save for three binder hole punches. A steal for a mere 10+ bucks. I don’t often shop on eBay and when I do it’s seldom by auction. I made an exception for this terrific newspaper archive photograph which reminds me of an Iwo Jima-esque raising of a tiki. This 1970 image shows the installation of one of two idols going into the Garden of the Gods within Galveston, TX’s Sea-Arama. This aqua park thrived from 1965 until 1990 when it was rendered obsolete by a nearby Sea World (and finally torn down in 2006). I especially like the authenticity of this historic (possibly one of a kind) relic; the newspaper column crop marks on the front, notations and press clipping on the rear.
