Tiktok never seemed fairly treated to me, even down to his basic design. John Neill drew him as this massive ball body with tiny head and disproportionate limbs that caused him to almost always fall over and then be trapped like a turtle until others helped him up. That seemed silly. Why would his makers have been so brilliant to make him only to leave his body so fundamentally flawed that he could barely move for himself? Last night almost at random got hit with what feels like a good shot of creative lightning. Been so stuck on what my Tiktok in “The Ghost Army of Oz” should look like...nothing was clicking, my adaptations felt dry and cliche. And then I got the flash: to design Tiktok to take much of his visual cues, body posture and features from the legendary Buster Keaton. Model the stoic, dependable, ever-put-upon Tiktok on “The Great Stone Face.” It’s going to need more work but...this feels right. It feels like a linchpin idea for the rest of the book to finish coming together.
