Project 1: Asset Design 3
This week’s task was to practice tile texturing. The idea is that you begin with a 1st person image of a texture and then throw that image into Photoshop so that the image square can then be tiled continuously and seamlessly. The biggest struggle I face while trying to get the image to look seamless, where the shadow variations between two opposing sides of the image. For example, in the image I took of the pavement, there are several parts of the image that have darker overarching shadows in some parts while on the other end of the image it is much lighter. Despite having taken the photo on an overcast day where the light was nicely diffused over the pavement, this still posed an issue. As you can see in the screen shot from photoshop, this was hard to hide with the spot-healing and clone stamp tools without creating a subtle grid within the tiled texture. Once, this was added into Substance Alchemist though, I was able to use several filters such as the dirt and water filters to make this grid less noticeable and obvious.
