where: at an na meeting
No matter how many meetings he attended, X would never get used to the expectation of honesty that was prevalent in the room. Being forthcoming was easy when he was doing it with lyrics intended to strike at the listener, but when it was just him and his words and the eyes of people who struggled in the same way he did he often found himself falling short of the mark.
It was only when he saw a familiar face across the room did he opt out of sharing during the meeting itself, at a loss for how he would wax poetic about himself and his battle with staying sober while in the same space with someone who had been led down that path by him.
When it drew to a close and people were filtering out, he wanted to do the same, wanted to slip out the front door of the community centre that it was being hosted in but he knew that was a coward's choice. Instead, he approached her and decided to not insult them both by pretending he didn't know exactly who it was he was talking to.
"Good share. Haven't seen you here before."
