On the Edge, a UK-based media and conservation entity, is releasing an original series of ten comedic short films featuring a glimpse inside the worlds of some of the most vulnerable species - both environmentally and emotionally!
The digital series, titled Animals in Therapy, is directed by Tim Hope and features real footage of endangered and at-risk species voiced-over by an all-star list of comedic talent such as Rhys Darby (Our Flag Means Death / Flight of the Conchords), Jessica Barden (The End of The F***ing World), Mae Martin (The Flight Attendant), Julian Barratt (The Mighty Boosh), Adrian Bliss (TikTok) and many more. Each digital short shines the spotlight on vulnerable animals such as Ground Pangolins, California Condors, and Eastern Rock Elephant Shrews, all sharing their challenges and anxieties in a group therapy-like setting. From California Condors venting about their dating woes in light of dropping population rates, to tropical fish sharing their less-than-ideal living accommodations inside of a plastic milk carton - the cheeky tone is brought to life by the comedic talent and provides an entertaining spin on traditionally serious topics. “Who’s going to usher in the new millennium? What musical entity? A pantomime ape dressed in a little sort of.. y’know.. flares, emitting yeast? Or is if gonna be a sort of silver pure cube?”
Julian and Tim Hope as The Pod on the Apocalypse Tube, a 3-hour NYE special in 1999 that also featured Paul McCartney, the artist formerly known as Prince, Belle & Sebastian, Macy Grey, Robbie Williams, and more—including a very young, pretty, and thankfully sans-Walliams Matt Lucas. If I remember correctly, it was recorded over two nights in November(?) and the boys weren’t there when the headliners were. :/
Going to excise the Pod’s bit (~5 mins) and post it alongside the full version (for the nostalgia value) on the Boosh Docs soon.
Sorry if this is spammy, but also happy Julianuary!
Tim Hope - Wolfman *Good Quality*
I have been compared to the protagonist. I am deeply flattered. My rocket is made of pure carbon.
Let's just get our flesh off, and let's dream, yeah?
@agarlandoffreshlycuttears BOY ARE YOU IN FOR A TREAT. Introducing ‘Indie’ or perhaps ‘I’m Scared of Phones’, a prescient late-90′s parody of whingy indie music by way of parody of pretentious neofuturist electronica musicians. There’s a lot of layers of parody.
Enjoy Julian’s DELICIOUSLY LONG LANKY BODY and his LUDICROUS LONG LEGS as he hangs off and twirls around park equipment, as he slopes and lopes and slouches, in his eyeliner and asymmetrical fringe and huge hands and tiny intense eyes, and his accent which hadn’t yet been softened around the edges by years of living in London. All moody indie emo pretty boy. Also enjoy him literally hiding in the corner from a rotary phone.
God, The Pod was wonderful and ridiculous.
Director - Tim Hope
Julian Barratt Narrates in this fantastic Christmas short by Tim Hope. Just more of the Barratt gold we’ve come to know and love.
