honestly it's making me pissed that Judas Priest will most likely not get in the hall of shame, because that would have been probably the only chance for them to meet up with KK without any stupid excuses, and they would've had to speak with him. If, or when it's clear that it's not happening, I'm going to drag my ass over to UK and grab KK with me and force the band to speak with him because I, as well as many other fans, are so fucking tired of the guys fighting with each other through the media and interviews, without talking directly to each others. I doubt any of them will see this, but if they somehow do, please show some love to your fans and talk to each others. You will regret it when one of you dies without making peace with other. Do it for us!!

Friday, August 23: Judas Priest, “Dead Meat”

Jugulator had absolutely everything working against it: terrible timing, release on JV labels, a new and unknown singer replacing an icon, stupendously juvenile lyrics, and a seeming insistence on not playing to most of Judas Priest’s strengths as writers and players.  But the album actually held up better than expected (certainly more so than Demolition), and there were occasional sparks: besides album highlights “Death Row” and “Cathedral Spires”, “Dead Meat” was forceful and violent but also spry and catchier than most of Jugulator.  Tim “Ripper” Owens was still saddled with Glenn Tipton’s idiotic lyrics, but the cadence of the verses and his unbridled enthusiasm sold the material well, and Scott Travis was an absolute beast on drums- his work on this record was every bit as strong as it was on Painkiller, with those two records representing his peak as a drummer.  It all came together fairly well here, as Tipton and K.K. Downing also brought back the guitar tag teaming that helped build Priest’s legacy.  By no means was “Dead Meat” a classic track, but it had color and fire, and as such stood in stark relief against most of what Priest would put out during the Ripper years.
