I know I said I would talk about problematic FFXIV ships, but so far my OTP is Master Beatin and Captain Gairhard. There's nothing inappropriate about their relationship, they're just really cute 🥺

Saw That One Coming

After the exhausting events at the Padjali ceremony, Faobo decided not to dive headfirst back into the search for his Captain, but instead stay in Gridania for a while, and help out some of the local folk with their troubles. His way would soon lead him to a rather distressed dancing instructor, whose students, a group of three children, seemed less than eager to attend her classes.

... Oh. That guy, huh? Honestly, he’d hoped not to run into the man again so soon, especially since the ceremonial mask he’d been entrusted with had certainly suffered more than just a scratch following his collapse at the event.

A not quite comfortable feeling in his stomach, Faobo made his way back into the halls of the Oak Atrium.

Sir, you met like three hours before, and you threatened to do unspeakable things to him.

Just one second there. Those words sounded rather... sensible. And you didn’t have to be a carpenter to see that those toys were clearly made with effort. Alright! Faobo was here to help Miss Yedythe, after all, so off he went to find the unruly students, and hand the toys out to them. Trained in... well, targeting people, it didn’t take him too long to find them, and delivering the bribes.

It worked.

And not only that, but those young ones genuinely seemed to like the timbermaster. Perhaps Faobo had misjudged him? Perhaps they’d just started off on the wrong foot. Satisfied with himself, he made his way back to report to the dancing instructor, delighted to see that the children had, indeed, come back to continue their lesson.

Oh. Well, Faobo had never been very passionate about dancing, but who was he to deny a peace offering? So he tried his hand - or rather his feet - at the jolly steps of the Harvest Dance, not noticing that they were being watched.

A... shanty? Perhaps a peace offering from his side?

It didn’t work.

Gee I wonder! Could it have been the giant saw you’d been swinging around during your - admittedly - rather impressive performance?

The children, however, seemed less intimidated.

Exit, pursued by three younglings.

With this, Faobo was left to his own thoughts. Although one could argue that his endeavour had been successful - the children did show back up for their dancing classes, in the end - it hadn’t exactly yielded an outcome he’d expected. This little episode was just the latest of events he’d witnessed since his arrival in Eorzea, and the longer he stayed here, the more questions arose within his mind. Questions, some of which he was sure Captain Aozhan would be able to answer, should he ever find him, but also some he suspected would never be truly answered by mankind.

One thing, however, Faobo was still certain about at the end of this day: He still wouldn’t turn his back on Master Beatin.

Sooo I made another Final Fantasy character. His name is Faobo, he just met our dear Master Beatin, and now he’s torn between strange fascination, and absolutely not wanting to turn his back on the man 😂

And I mean... who’d blame him, if within like 5 seconds of speaking to someone, you get hit with this gem?

I don’t care what the devs say, Beatin is at least 45 years old.
